Ultrathin Coating
Nonwoven/film composites with extremely low basis weight
Ultrathin Coating is a Reifenhäuser CSC technology (patent pending) for extrusion coating of nonwovens with a very thin film. Composites for medical PPE and other applications have a 28% lower basis weight and up to 34% lower production costs compared with conventional roll goods.
Benefits
- Production costs up to 34 % lower
- 28 % lower material consumption
- 66 % lower film basis weight
- No hot-melt adhesives
- Return on investment in under 12 months
- Compliant with EN 13795 and EN 14126
- Simpler line maintenance and operation
- Medical personal protective equipment
- Surgical gowns and drapes
- Nonwoven/film composites

Description
The process does not use hot-melt adhesives. A 66% reduction in film basis weight results in a total composite basis weight 28% lower than comparable products, such as impermeable laminates; production costs fall by up to 34%, and equipment maintenance is also reduced.
The composites meet the standards for medical PPE, e.g. EN 13795 and EN 14126 (surgical gowns and drapes). The payback period for an investment in a new line is less than one year.
Reifenhäuser CSC supplies a line adapted for Ultrathin Coating, the formulation for producing the composites and process support. Operators of Reicofil lines can link them to a line for producing the roll goods.
