ECO
Continuous melt filter for PET, PA and lightly contaminated materials
Thanks to their special design, ECO continuous melt filters are used mainly in PET and PA applications, for filtering lightly contaminated industrial waste, slightly contaminated post-consumer waste and clean virgin material. They significantly reduce the proportion of degraded PET in the form of black specks.
Benefits
- Continuous operation with constant pressure on the outlet side
- No screen change needed for several weeks or even months – depending on material and application
- Extremely low melt losses
- Permanently clean filter surface throughout operation
- Removal of contaminants up to 1.5% (for higher contamination levels the manufacturer recommends the ERF filter)
- Fully enclosed system with no trapped air
- Short residence time of contaminants in the filter
- Uniform melt flow without dead spots or degraded polymer
- Suitable for all polyolefins, polystyrenes, PET and PA
- Better mixing and homogenization of highly filled melts
- Recycling
- Extrusion

Description
ECO filters process a wide range of polymers and efficiently remove solid and elastomeric foreign particles such as gels, black specks, paper, wood, aluminium, copper, rubber, silicone or high-melting polymer composites.
The classic application is extrusion lines, for example when processing recycled PET bottle flakes into films for food packaging, strapping and fibres. Other areas of use include PET repelletizing and compounding in general. In principle, ECO filters can be used in any extrusion line – with single-screw or twin-screw extruders and regardless of the type of pelletizing or downstream equipment. Three sizes – ECO 350, ECO 500 and ECO 1000 – allow throughputs from 150 to 8,000 kg/h, depending on the application.
Application examples (material; contaminants; total contamination; melt loss): PET fines (PET, 100% bottle flakes; aluminium, paper, PVC; 0.5%; 0.3%), PET bottles (PET; aluminium, paper, black specks; 0.2%; 0.1%), film for thermoformed packaging (PET, 100% bottle flakes, food-grade application; aluminium, paper; 0.5–0.6%; 0.1–0.2%), strapping (PET, 100% bottle flakes; aluminium, paper; 0.5–0.8%; 0.1–0.2%), repelletizing (PET, 100% fines; aluminium, paper; 0.8–1%; 0.8–1%), TPE compounding (TPE, TPV, SBS; gels, specks; 0.1%; 0.1%), thermoforming sheet (PP/PE; gels, specks; 0.1%; 0.1%).
